The iLasik is a combination of the most modern technologies currently available on the market and, due to its precision, is used e.g. for jet pilots of the US Navy and astronauts of the US NASA.

Wavefront measurement involves testing the characteristics of your vision using Wavescan technology. The Wavescan system represents a 3-D drawing of your vision problems. With the Advanced CustomVue procedure, your individual treatment is designed on the basis of the digital data from this representation. The Wavefront Lasik differs essentially in the use of the aberrometer.

The aberrometer sends a laser beam through the eye to the retina, creating an "image". This "image" is very important for the examining physician because it provides him with accurate data about your defective vision. In 2008 the aberrometer was introduced and since then it has also been called "the tailor-made Lasik", which has replaced the classic Lasik system due to the precision of the data supplied. The Wavefront map thus corresponds to a graphic representation of all imaging errors of the optical system and is therefore often referred to as the "fingerprint" of the eye.

With the iLasik or Femto-Lasik, the computer-controlled, contact-free Femto-Second Laser replaces the hand-held mechanical microkeratome that was traditionally used for the corneal incision in the first step of Lasik. In addition, the Femto-Second Laser is used for the correction of high corneal curvatures (astigmatic keratomy), for the implantation of intra-corneal ring segments and for corneal transplants.

The Femto-Second Laser guarantees more stable corneal flaps with improved wound healing and higher biomechanical stability. Since hardly any aberrations are induced by the laser cut, Femto-LASIK provides better results. Avoiding complications caused by the incision also increases the safety of the operation. In the Medibeauty Department of the Medistate Clinic, this outdated Lasik method (horn incision with keratoma) is no longer performed due to the disadvantages. If suitable, the horn incision is only cut with the laser device (Intralase Lasik) or it is completely removed and you receive a Wavefront-PRK Lasik.

All these techniques are performed in our partner clinic by very experienced refractive surgeons and doctors. Here it is important for which variant your eyes are suited. The Lasik techniques are discussed in detail on site during the preliminary examination. We then decide which procedure guarantees the optimal result.

When selecting the Lasik technique, it is important whether you are suited for Wavefront technology and whether your corneal layer is thick enough. In addition to the usual stages of the preliminary examination, it is characterized by the following special features:

iLasik is a trademark of Abbott Medical Optics Incl. for a special refractive surgery procedure using unique devices.

With this analysis, irregularities in the optical system of the eye can be analysed. This data is incorporated into the programming of the excimer laser. With the Wavefront iLasik not only the dioptre values are corrected, but also refraction errors of higher order, such as mountains and valleys in the cornea.

It compensates these differences by iris recognition, so that the laser spots model the cornea exactly in the right place and do not fall by the wayside.

The IntraLase Femto-Second Laser produces flaps of very precisely calculable strength and dimension. Cutting problems, which can occur extremely rarely with microkeratomes, are excluded here.

This system detects eye movements during laser cutting in the X, Y and Z axes. This is done via an infrared system. The unavoidable eye movements of the patient are immediately detected and transferred to the excimer laser control. So every laser spot hits precisely.

and the precisely matching laser energy result in a significantly lower corneal ablation rate than with other systems.

The PRK (photorefractive keratectomy) and its further development, the LASEK (Laser Epithelial Keratomileusis), are usually alternative procedures for certain patients in whom eLASIK/ Femto-LASIK are not possible, e.g. due to a cornea that is too thin.

The PRK and the LASEK belong to the surface methods. First, the corneal epithelium is pushed aside or removed with a special scraper (LASEK) or mechanically (PRK). In contrast to LASIK/FEMTO-LASIK, which produces a complete corneal flap, PRK/LASEK leaves a thin layer of corneal epithelium. The same examination procedure is used as with the Wavefront Lasik.

No conventional flap is created, but the corneal layer is removed or detached. A protective lens is applied to the patient until the corneal layer has formed again (approx. 5 days). This is removed as soon as the corneal layer has formed again (removing the lens is not a difficult process, but the doctor would like to take a look at your eyes at the end of the procedure). In the case of a PRK treatment, it is possible that the return flight will have to be rebooked).

With this method, the superficial corneal layer is removed or detached. Subsequently, the actual laser treatment takes place. Finally, a protective lens is inserted, which is removed again as soon as the corneal layer is restored (the lens is removed after about 4-5 days). The removal of the lens is not a difficult process, but the doctor would like to look at your eyes at the end. It is possible that in the case of a PRK treatment the return flight will have to be rebooked).

This method is used for laser eye surgery with the Visumax Femto-Laser of the Carl-Zeiss-Technology. The laser prepares a lenticular (corneal disc) without opening the cornea. A minimal hole is then removed through which the laser treatment is carried out. This method is well suited for extreme athletes, but the healing phase of this method is up to one year, the longest of all offered treatment methods.

Here an implantable contact lens is used. This procedure is particularly suitable for patients in whom corneal surgery cannot be performed, e.g. for glaucoma or varifocity. This variant requires a stay of at least 4 nights. You must arrive on Sundays, then you will receive the preliminary examination on Monday and the 1st lens for one eye will be inserted. On the following day you will have the follow-up examination for the 1st lens. On Wednesday your 2nd lens will be inserted, and on Thursday you will receive a final follow-up examination for both eyes. Then you can fly home again.

These lenses are very common and are available in the clinic. If you need a special lens, which is not mentioned above, the costs may vary. These lenses have to be made especially for your eyes. The costs for these lenses may differ from the above-mentioned costs.

All diagnostic devices and eye laser systems are from Original VISX Star S4 IR with the 3rd generation from 2019. The laser technology is the original iLasik, which has also been approved by NASA for pilots.

The Relex Smile treatment is carried out by the German company Carl Zeiss. With the VisuMax Femto-Second Laser of the latest generation in combination with the Excimer Laser ZEISS MEL 90, both technologies built in 2015, the clinic has the most modern technical infrastructure at its disposal.

The eye of every human being is unique in its structure and its refractive power and thus as unique as a genetic fingerprint. Due to the individual nature of the cornea and lens, the human eye is not a perfect optical system. In a perfect optical system, for example, the cornea is uniform and round. In reality, the cornea often exhibits different curvatures at different points and various aberrations. Therefore, each eye is individual, unique and different - even with the same defective vision of -3.5 dioptre, for example. On arrival in Istanbul, you will receive a telephone call from our local staff member, informing you when you will be expected or picked up for the preliminary examination or interview.

After landing in Istanbul, you will be picked up at the airport by our transfer service and driven to the hotel. The rest of the day, you will have free time for a possible sightseeing of the city.

The preliminary examination takes place in the morning. We will inform you of the exact date before your trip.

Here the intraocular pressure, corneal thickness and pupil diameter are measured by ultrasound in darkness. The corneal surface (topography) is measured using Wavefront aberrometers and an examination of lacrimal secretion.

You are certainly familiar with this process from your optometrist, who tests different strengths with you and asks you: "Do you see better or rather worse now? “

Your pupils must be dilated for this examination. For this you will be given drops of a special product in your eyes. Do not be afraid, it will burn a little for a few minutes. After 30 minutes the examination of the posterior part of the eye is done with a slit-lamp microscope. Here the retina, optic nerve and macula are examined. The examination of the anterior segment of the eye specializes in the cornea, the pupil and the lens. After this examination, your eyes will be very sensitive to light. Please do not forget to bring sunglasses with very good UV protection!

After you have completed all examinations, the results will be discussed with the treating chief physician. If no concerns or contraindications arise from these preliminary examinations, the treatment appointment will be made on the same day.

Understandably, you'll be a little excited, so you can get a tranquilizer as a precaution. However, please ask your nurse or doctor about it. At the same time, your hair and shoes will be covered with plastic caps. In the vestibule of the operating theatre an anaesthetic will be dripped into your eyes, which has to take effect for approx. 10 minutes. The eye area will then be sterilized.

In the operation theatre you will be expected by your doctor and his experienced team. You lie comfortably on a motorized adjustable stretcher. Now your upper body and your face are covered with a special foil, whereby the area of the eye that is to be operated first is left out. An eyelid barrier keeps your eye open and moistens it with a liquid. From this point on, each patient will receive an individual surgery: this has already been determined after the preliminary examination, and you will now receive the corneal incision suitable for your eyes. With iLasik and Intralase, your cornea is cut open with the Laser device. Here the healing phase is fastest.

You will be asked to focus on a green light and the eye tracker, which compensates for any movements of the eye, can be adjusted. The laser now starts its precision work and is finished after a few seconds. The corneal lamella is gently folded back into its old position and lightly pressed on. The treated eye is rinsed and covered sterile. Then the treatment of the second eye can begin.

You can already see relatively well. About 10 minutes later, your doctor will examine the result with the shift lamp microscope. The appointment for the second follow-up examination will be arranged with you for the next day. Already now you can go to your hotel room without glasses. However, your eyes will be somewhat sensitive to light immediately after the operation. Maybe it is tearing - it feels like "cutting an onion". However, this feeling is already much better for the majority of patients on the next day. Rest for a while, after a few hours you will be fit again to be able to look at the dreamlike panorama of Istanbul with "new" eyes.

The next day the second follow-up examination takes place. Your preliminary visual acuity and cornea are checked. You will receive your clinic report. In the days and weeks that follow, you will notice that your vision improves from day to day.

If you have received a PRK, the lens will be removed after about 4-5 days and the doctor will look at your eyes again. If you need PRK treatment, plan your return trip accordingly.

Every Saturday (depending on the weather) there is a free city or Bosporus tour after the follow-up examination (entrance fees, taxi, bus costs are not included).

You will be picked up from your hotel 3 hours before your return flight. Until then you have free time. We wish you a pleasant journey home.
